How do you live bravely?

Two years ago, I was working at a job that I hated. But I had been unemployed for over a year, and my savings was running out, so I knew I had to stick with the job for a bit until I could find a better opportunity. I did find a better opportunity - or, rather, it found me. Someone asked me to consult for his company, but I resisted for almost a month. It wasn't enough hours, the pay wasn't enough, I needed my benefits.

One day, while walking along the Embarcadero to my office, a thought popped into my head: "I am not afraid to live bravely." That day, I accepted the consulting gig. I gave my notice soon after. I have not regretted my decision since.

Living bravely didn't end that day. Rather, I find myself making all kinds of brave decisions - from moving on from clients, to telling colleagues about my long-term goals, to asking for a gallery show, to telling clients that I'm not available on Friday afternoons (so I can create instead). I put myself out there in innumerable ways every day; I don't always get what I want, but I never regret taking these little risks.

So, tell me - how do you live bravely? What are some of the big and small ways you dare to change things up? What do you wish you could do more of?

Live bravely! The world needs more brave people.

And my Live Bravely prints are now available in my Etsy shop!

  1. What a lovely print! It speaks on so many levels: aesthetically, literally, spiritually, etc.

    It's simply fantastic!
