Alien succulents

I needed some drawing time while I was in LA for Thanksgiving, and decided to go to the Huntington Library to sketch. The Huntington holds a special place in my heart - I went regularly when I was a kid, and my favorite college professor was once the director of the Library - but I hadn't been in over twenty years.

I'd never wandered around the succulent gardens. Walking around, I was struck by just how odd-looking cacti are. I mean, they look like aliens. Perhaps all those UFO sightings in the desert are really just cactus sightings.

I didn't end up doing too much sketching - it was too cold to sit still outside that day - but I did get some inspiration. And, really, that's enough.
