Renegade SF!

I wish I could say Renegade SF was a smashing success, but it wasn't. Funny thing, though - I had a blast. I didn't sell much (well, except for iPhone cases, fishnets bags, and flower bags), but my work got a really good reception. And my booth looked gorgeous. All that agonizing over colors and banners and display paid off.

So many friends helped me out, which is a reminder of just how much of an art community I've developed. Saturday was the day of three Steph(f)s: Stef Lindeen helped me set up (and took these gorgeous photos*), Steph Cortes helped me sell, and Steph Dodaro stopped by to buy me a beer. Sunday, the lovely Amelia Strader kept me company for five whopping hours.

So, yeah - feeling pretty lucky to have done the show. At the end of the weekend, I decided that Renegade is probably not the best venue for me to sell my art. To figure out how to get the word out about my work, I'm working on a marketing plan, and researching art fairs.

I'm looking forward to trying something new. My work has progressed over the past year, and it's time for my marketing efforts to reflect that!

Also, the photographer behind these photos (and these and these) is offering two-hour portrait sessions for just $200. If you'd like to book some time with her, email her at stefanie (at) stefanierenee (dot) net.

  2. Hello!
As a regular market stall holder in Sydney who has had 'good' and 'not so good' sales days, I don't think you can base the success of your stall just on how much you take at a single market. Think of the number of people who stopped, took a card, talked with you and will remember you for next time - these are all positive experiences and should be factored in as success. There are many factors as to why you did not have a great day that are outside of your reach (weather, numbers of people through etc.) Look on the bright side, it was at least a great marketing experience for you and your lovely things.

  3. Thanks, Stef and Paperklip!

@Stef: Fingers crossed that this weekend is much better than last.

@Paperklip: Alas, this is my fifth show with them, and I've seen sales decline with each show. I think it's a sign :)

  4. Hey Jen, I've talked to a few people who showed at Renegade this year and it sounds like they did not do well either. Just wanted to tell you that.

  5. Congratulations on the stall. You can never tell how you'll go at these fairs - some days are better than others. As long as you're doing what you love and keep believing in yourself, you'll do well.
